Weather:
The 'official' climate data for Oxford (which is 27 miles / 43 km away) says
the average maximum temperature in June is 19.5C / 67F and the average
minimum is 10.5C / 51F with 187.8 hours of sunshine. The average rainfall
is 54.5mm (2.1 in) with 8.7 days recording more than 1mm of rain. However,
this temperature and rainfall information will not be very helpful as the
variation can be great. There is really no hot or cold or wet or dry season!
Daytime temperatures could range from 10C (50F) to 22C (72F). Sometimes
temperatures can fall to 5C (41F) to 12C (54F) at night. Rain is less
predictable - it may be dry for the entire meeting or rain most days! This
is why the weather is an important topic of conversation in England! Bring
warm clothing and rainwear and an umbrella (none of which may be needed).
Arriving by Air:
From Heathrow there is a regular bus service (45 mins) to Reading station
where a train to Newbury can be caught (20 min journey). The Standard Return
fare (round trip fare for the entire journey) is 33.80.
From Gatwick airport the railway journey time to Newbury is about 2 hours
depending on route taken and the Standard Return fare (round trip) is 34.60
if not via London or 60.60 if via London.
Rail Travel in the UK:
Rail enquiries can be made at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/. By entering
start and destination station, date and time of travel a list of trains will
be given together with fares. At weekends train times may be re-routed or
re-timed. Rail fares vary depending on route, time of day and whether
prebooked or not. If you need more information on travel in the UK contact
Rod Grealish ([email protected])
General:
There are banks, a post office, and a good selection of shops in Newbury
within walking distance of the Micro Focus building.
